Norwegian Space Cluster Strengthens Nordic Collaboration at Winter Satellite Workshop in Espoo, Finland

Espoo, Finland – February 2025 – The Norwegian Space Cluster participated in the prestigious Winter Satellite Workshop, the largest New Space gathering in Finland, Scandinavia, and the Baltic countries. Held at Aalto University, the event brought together space technology specialists, scientists, and students to discuss advancements in the rapidly evolving space sector.

Since its inception in 2018, the Winter Satellite Workshop has served as a key platform for regional collaboration in space technology. Organized by the Aalto University Space Technology Research Group (Aalto Satellites), the workshop is a joint initiative supported by officials, funding agencies, industry stakeholders, and student organizations. This year, the event was co-organized by AuroraSpace Project, further strengthening Nordic partnerships in space innovation.

Norwegian Space Cluster’s Role in the Nordic Cluster Round Table

One of the highlights of this year’s workshop was the first-ever Nordic Cluster Round Table, which brought together key representatives from space clusters across the region. The Norwegian Space Cluster played a central role in the discussions, emphasizing the need for increased collaboration in satellite missions, small satellite platform development, Earth observation, and sustainable space utilization.

The Space Cluster Round Table Agenda included:

  • Presentations: Each participating cluster shared insights into their latest projects and activities.

  • Collaboration Discussions: Addressing ongoing Nordic initiatives and identifying future needs in the space sector.

  • Regional Resilience: Exploring ways to enhance the region’s resilience through shared space technology efforts.

  • Networking Opportunities: The event concluded with a Space Cluster Lunch at Metso Restaurant, providing an informal setting for deeper collaboration and partnership-building.

Positive Industry Feedback and Future Prospects

The inaugural Nordic Cluster Round Table received highly positive feedback from space organizations and industry representatives, who recognized it as an essential step toward deeper cooperation in the region. The Norwegian Space Cluster reaffirmed its commitment to fostering long-term partnerships with Scandinavian and Baltic stakeholders, aiming to drive innovation and economic growth in the space domain.

As the Winter Satellite Workshop continues to grow, it is set to become a cornerstone for Nordic and Baltic space industry cooperation, paving the way for groundbreaking advancements in space science and technology.
