Breakfast Highlights: Spaceport Norway Conference

On June 21th, Ole Dokka, the Executive Director of Spaceport Norway, presented the Spaceport Norway conference. This year’s conference theme, "Exploration," underscores the vital role of space exploration in communication, navigation, and scientific understanding.

Spaceport Norway brings together representatives from the space industry, organizations, investors, startups, recent graduates, and students to foster the exchange of ideas, opportunities, and collaborations within the space sector. Dokka emphasized the need for coordination among numerous initiatives, highlighting the burgeoning number of startups and the critical value propositions of infrastructure, manufacturing, and launching services.

Several new products and services are set to launch during the conference, including from NOSA and other professional exhibitors.

The conference will be held at the Oslo Event Hub 12-13th of November, and the Space Cluster will host a reception on Monday night the 11th.

Breakfast Highlights: Tycho Space's Innovations in LEO Applications

On June 7th, at the second Space Breakfast meeting, Tycho Space introduced their company, emphasizing their expertise in developing embedded solutions for Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) applications. Their innovative approach leverages consumer electronics to reduce costs while maintaining flexibility and reliability.

Tycho Space aims to be a key player in the NewSpace industry, striving to make space more accessible and affordable. They showcased their "Tychobob" processing platform, which simplifies satellite integration and extends the legacy of NTNU's satellite projects.

The company is seeking funding and partners, particularly those with expertise in sensor and processing algorithm development. They highlighted their successful past projects with S&T, Vake, and NTNU, including software upgrades and feasibility studies. Tycho Space's hardware prototype testing and software heritage from Hypso 1 and 2 promise to expedite sensor and algorithm integration, addressing the challenges of FPGA implementation and radio control integration.

Overall, Tycho Space is poised to accelerate the implementation of LEO technologies, offering robust software infrastructure and housekeeping solutions to streamline satellite operations.

On May 24th, the first in a series of space breakfast webinars featured a presentation by Angela Mathis, CEO of ThinkTank Maths. Mathis introduced her company, emphasizing their mission to innovate for the future in Space and Future Energy through advanced Digital Intelligence Systems.

ThinkTank Maths, with 16 years of expertise in Space, Defence, and Energy, boasts a highly skilled R&D team, advisors, and board members. The company has invested £2 million over three years in Space Situational Awareness (SSA) models and applications. Notable achievements include securing second place at the Nordic Launch 2022 as a top Norwegian space start-up and receiving a Scottish Enterprise SMART Grant for their SSA project. They are also involved in significant government space contracts and the ESA VOLT Secure Satellite Communication project.

The company focuses on providing radical solutions for the economic transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources and enhancing sustainability in near-Earth space orbits. They develop innovative mathematical methods and models that push the limits of physics and engineering, aiming to provide precise insights for informed decision-making.
